Join our expert-led online science teaching course to explore the role of science within the school curriculum, including Year 11 and Year 12 NSW science syllabuses and the Australian Curriculum. You’ll also learn how to craft dynamic teaching sequences that empower learners to build science understanding through Working Scientifically skills and inquiry-based questions.

35 weeks (approx 320 hours. Less than 10 hours per week). Progress with manageable fractional part-time load (25 per cent of full time).

To join this microcredential, you’ll need evidence of teacher accreditation.

You will also need easy access to a computer and the internet, basic computer literacy skills, and proficiency in English.

Australian teachers and school executives seeking to add an additional teaching area or become qualified to teach science ‘in field’.

What you'll learn

You’ll learn how to:

  • leverage cutting-edge learning theories and pedagogies to enhance assessment in diverse secondary science classrooms
  • craft inclusive, engaging activities and lesson plans for Years 7–10 that empower every student
  • develop Stage 6 science sequences that foster understanding through hands-on Working Scientifically skills and inquiry-based questions
  • uncover dynamic strategies to differentiate teaching, learning and assessment for all Stage 6 science students.

On successful completion of this course, you'll get:

  • the skills to use the Science 7–10 Syllabus for NSW or the Australian Curriculum to craft cohesive lesson sequences that build on students’ prior scientific knowledge, allowing them to deepen their conceptual understanding
  • the ability to implement senior secondary science curricula and syllabus documents effectively in your teaching programs
  • a nuanced understanding of contemporary pedagogical models, including inquiry-based strategies and the capability to integrate them into your teaching activities and assessments.
  • receive two subject credits (16pts) into the Bachelor of Educational Studies,
