Every child has the right to be safe. This Child Protection Module has been developed in direct response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse (2017). The Commission called on Australian universities and training providers to deliver prevention education that increases awareness and understanding of child safety across all communities.

At Charles Sturt, we believe child safety is everyone’s responsibility. As a result, we’re making our training available to the wider community so that organisations and individuals can build the knowledge and skills needed to keep children safe.

This short, self-paced online course provides participants with essential knowledge and tools to recognise, respond to, and prevent harm to children and young people.

Whether you work directly with children or not, this module empowers you to play your part in keeping children safe.

This training is suitable for everyone.

You will need access to a computer and the internet and must have basic computer literacy skills and English proficiency.

We believe child safety is everyone’s responsibility. This course is designed for everyone, including:

  • universities, schools, early childhood providers and NGOs
  • health and community organisations
  • government and corporate staff engaging with communities
  • individuals committed to child safety and wellbeing.

What you'll learn

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • identify and respond to children and young people at risk
  • support the rights and safety of children and young people
  • work collaboratively to maintain safe environments
  • recognise harmful behaviours and act appropriately
  • understand your role and responsibilities in preventing harm
  • gain insight into how disadvantage and positionality impact child safety.

Participants must achieve 100% on the final quiz (with unlimited attempts) to successfully complete the module and receive a digital badge.

Course outcomes

On completion of this course, you'll:

  • receive a digital microcredential badge recognising your commitment to child safety
  • be equipped with the skills to intervene and protect vulnerable children
  • gain an understanding of best practice approaches to child protection
  • contribute to safer communities through awareness and action.
