ESOS, protecting our students' rights
The Education Services for overseas Students Act 2000 (ESOS Act) and related legislation are designated to protect the interest of overseas students coming to Australia on student visas. The legislation aims to protect and enhance Australia’s reputation for quality education, provide tuition protection and support the integrity of the student visa program.
The National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018 Legislation sets nationally consistent standards and procedures for registered providers. The National Code supports the effective administration of the ESOS legislative framework by the Commonwealth and state and territory governments. Tuition Protection Service
As an international student, the Tuition Protection Service will assist you if your education provider is unable to fully deliver your course of study. Charles Sturt also has obligations under the Tuition Protection Service. This ensures you can either:
- Complete your studies in another course or with another education provider or
- Receive a refund for your unspent tuition fees.
As an international student, both Charles Sturt and your course are registered with the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). This is an Australian government website, which lists all Australian education providers that are approved to teach overseas students and the courses that they offer.
Not all courses can be offered to overseas students, only those with CRICOS registration. Charles Sturt’s CRICOS number is 00005F.
