With an industry-aligned master's in information technology, you'll open up a world of career opportunities. You could work as a network engineer, software developer or database administrator. You could choose to work as a data analyst or work as cyber security professional to help secure IT infrastructure. You may also utilise your knowledge of AI and big data technologies while working as an AI expert.

    What you will study

    For each 8-point subject you are enrolled in, you should expect to spend 10 to 12 hours per week working on assignments and assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, and attending lectures, intensive schools, or examinations. If you are studying four subjects per session, this is equivalent to a full-time job. The workload for some subjects may vary as a result of approved course design.

    Intensive school

    You may need to attend an online or on-campus intensive school for certain subjects in this course. These schools usually involve lectures, tutorials and practicals that will give you a deeper understanding of your subject.

    The course consists of four (4) core subjects, 32 points of compulsory subjects, a four (4) subject specialisation, plus 32 points of professional practice subjects.

    Students enrolled at Charles Sturt University Sydney and Charles Sturt Melbourne will complete structured work integrated learning activities as part of their program of study. The opportunity to undertake work placement may be available for students contingent on satisfactory progression and grades.

    To be eligible for admission to this course applicants must meet the minimum entry criteria listed below:

    • A completed Bachelor degree or higher from a recognised Australian tertiary institution (or equivalent). 

    Applicants without an equivalent tertiary qualification will be admitted via Graduate Diploma in Professional Information Technology pathway. For admission to the Graduate Diploma, applicants are required to have a minimum of a 3 years tertiary qualification equivalent to an Associate Degree. Upon successful completion of the Graduate Diploma, students will then be eligible for admission to the Master of Professional Information Technology and receive credit for applicable subjects.
