The Master of Intelligence Analysis from Charles Sturt University is intended to provide you, as an intelligence professional – whether in law enforcement, national security, public or private sectors – with the opportunity to undertake studies at postgraduate level through our Australian Graduate School of Policing and Security (AGSPS).

Intelligence analysis is a field experiencing significant growth with a high demand for skilled professionals. This course has a limited number of Commonwealth supported places (CSP) available. If you secure a CSP your fees are lower than a full fee-paying place. It also means you can apply for a HECS-HELP loan to pay for your studies and defer repayment until you earn above a certain amount.

Career opportunities

With a master's degree in intelligence analysis you can consolidate your strategic leadership and influence the development and implementation of intelligence practices, policies and procedures. Lead the collation, analysis and reporting of intelligence information. Prepare and present intelligence briefings. Analyse intelligence data, including the identification and evaluation of emerging threats, opportunities, patterns and trends relating to the activities which affect the security and good order of a prison.

    What you will study

    For each 8-point subject you are enrolled in, you should expect to spend 10 to 12 hours per week working on assignments and assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, and attending lectures, intensive schools, or examinations. If you are studying four subjects per session, this is equivalent to a full-time job. The workload for some subjects may vary as a result of approved course design.

    Intensive school

    You may need to attend an online or on-campus intensive school for certain subjects in this course. These schools usually involve lectures, tutorials and practicals that will give you a deeper understanding of your subject.

    The course consists of six core subjects, a pathway in either coursework, research or workplace research, and two AGSP electives.

    This course is designed to assist existing intelligence practitioners, and those hoping to access this field.

    As such students who are already working in as an intelligence analyst/practitioner, as well as those who hope to enter the profession, may be admitted (on a case by case basis) to the course. 

    Applicants will normally have an undergraduate degree and relevant intelligence and analysis professional experience.
