The Graduate Certificate in Audiovisual Archiving equips you with an awareness of the structures, strategies and skills behind audiovisual management activities, and an appreciation of the history, philosophy and ethics of audiovisual archiving.
This degree explores the principles and practices underlying collection development, collection management and access within the audiovisual environment, particularly in relation to audiovisual archives. You'll learn why audiovisual objects deteriorate and gain the knowledge and skills to implement preservation and storage methods to minimise their deterioration.
To ensure our course meets new and emerging trends in the field, Charles Sturt University works closely with professionals from the National Film and Sound Archive, who directly contribute their expertise to the course. Currently there are no accreditation requirements; however, the partnership with the national peak agency, the National Film and Sound Archives acts as a de-facto and indicates industry acceptance of the course.

For each 8-point subject you are enrolled in, you should expect to spend 10 to 12 hours per week working on assignments and assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, and attending lectures, intensive schools, or examinations. If you are studying four subjects per session, this is equivalent to a full-time job. The workload for some subjects may vary as a result of approved course design.
You may need to attend an online or on-campus intensive school for certain subjects in this course. These schools usually involve lectures, tutorials and practicals that will give you a deeper understanding of your subject.
