Study Subsidies Available
If you want to work for NSW Health after graduating, then you could be eligible for a Tertiary Health Study Subsidy. They help cover university fees, technology and travel expenses for professional experience placements or other associated personal costs that pop up as you study. If successful, you could be one of 12,000 students supported with up to $12,000 when you work with NSW Health after graduating. 

Charles Sturt University is part of the Victorian Government’s nursing and midwifery scholarship scheme – so if you’re a Victorian resident and choose to study the Bachelor of Nursing at our Albury campus, you could receive up to $16,500 to cover the cost of your study!

Plus, you have study options: choose to complete this undergraduate nursing degree full-time or part-time on campus, online or a mix of both.

    Practical program

    The Bachelor of Nursing supports students to undertake at least 800 hours of clinical placements in an exciting range of authentic healthcare settings.

    First Nations students

    If you are an Australian First Nations student you can choose to apply to study our Bachelor of Nursing online with a First Nations cohort. This will give you the opportunity to attend dedicated intensive schools with other First Nations students and access support from dedicated tutors.

    Admission pathways for TVET and TAFE students

    If you’re in high school and completing a Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Assisting in Nursing Work in Acute Care) – or if you’ve successfully completed a Certificate III in any course through TAFE or RTO vocational education – you could get entry into our Bachelor of Nursing.

    Are you an enrolled nurse? Or are you currently completing a Diploma in Nursing (or equivalent)? With recognition of prior learning you can gain eight subject credits and complete the Bachelor of Nursing in just two years full time study to become a registered nurse!

When you graduate, you'll be a registered nurse – with experience in professional practice – ready to make your mark in a wide range of careers. You could:

    Work in public and private healthcare facilities

    From emergency situations to post-procedure care, nurses are needed in public and private hospitals and health facilities, community health centres, defence forces, primary and secondary industries, insurance, justice health, mental health, and workplace health and safety.

    Improve patient care

    Use your knowledge and skills to conduct research and improve and advance patient care nursing practice. You could also return to undertake postgraduate study, such as one of our nursing graduate certificates, a graduate diploma, or one of our health research degrees

    Specialise

    After graduating with the Bachelor of Nursing, you have the opportunity to specialise in any area of nursing that interests you.

    What you will study

    For each 8-point subject you are enrolled in, you should expect to spend 10 to 12 hours per week working on assignments and assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, and attending lectures, intensive schools, or examinations. If you are studying four subjects per session, this is equivalent to a full-time job. The workload for some subjects may vary as a result of approved course design.

    Want to take the stress out of work placement so you can focus on what matters? We're making it easier with our Work Place Learning Grants. You could receive $2,000 to put towards your first work placement to help cover the costs of accommodation, travel, food - whatever you need! After all, hands-on learning is at the heart of what we do at Charles Sturt. Eligible for Bachelor of Nursing students enrolled in online study commencing in 2023 only, who will be studying the subject NRS276 in that same year. The grant will be paid post-census in the session in which you study that subject. Call 1800 275 278 for further information.

    Intensive school

    You may need to attend an online or on-campus intensive school for certain subjects in this course. These schools usually involve lectures, tutorials and practicals that will give you a deeper understanding of your subject.

    Students entering the course with an approved credit package will complete between 128 to 176 points to complete course requirements. Students entering the course without an approved credit package complete 192 points.

    • Completion of an Australian Year 12 qualification (or equivalent) with the Minimum ATAR required or equivalent is achieved
      OR
    • A completed Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) with an equivalent ranking to the currently listed ATAR
      OR
    • A completed Certificate III at AQF Level 3, studied at a TAFE, Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or University - or equivalent
      OR
    • Partial completion of an AQF Diploma, of at least 50%, studied at a TAFE, Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or University - or equivalent

    • A completed AQF Diploma studied at a TAFE, Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or University - or equivalent

    The English-language requirements for the Bachelor of Nursing align with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) English Language Skills Registration Standard (2025).

    Students must meet one of the following criteria:

    • Student is from an English-speaking background and must have attended and satisfactorily completed at least six years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English in a Nursing, Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) recognised country (e.g. Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, United Kingdom or United States of America) including at least two years between years 7 and 12. A full list of recognised countries is available from the NMBA website.
    • Student is an enrolled nurse with current registration with the NMBA - English language requirements will have been demonstrated for enrolled nurse registration.

    Students from a non-English speaking background must:

    • Provide IELTS results (academic module) or NMBA accepted equivalent with a minimum overall score of 7 with a minimum score of 7 each component for listening, reading and speaking, and a minimum score of 6.5 in writing.
    • Test results will be accepted from a maximum of two test sitting in 12-month period only if there is a minimum overall score of 7 in each sitting and a minimum score of 7 in each component for listening reading and speaking, a minimum score of 6.5 for writing across the two sittings. When using two test sittings no score in any component for either test can be below 6.5

    Examples of equivalent requirements are provided below. Details of other accepted tests are available from the NMBA website.

    For OET

    • Minimum score of B in listening, reading and speaking and a minimum score of C+ in writing.
    • A maximum of two test sittings in a 12-month period will be accepted if there is a minimum score in each component for listening, reading and speaking, and a minimum score of C+ across for writing across the two sittings. No score in any component for either sitting can be below C+

     

    For PTE Academic

    • Minimum overall score of 66 with a minimum score of 66 in listening reading and speaking, a minimum score of 56 in writing.
    • A maximum of two test sittings in a 12-month period will be accepted if there is a minimum score of 66 achieved in each sitting and a minimum sore of 66 in each component for listening, speaking and reading, and a minimum score of 56 in writing across the two sittings. No score in any component for either sitting is below 56.
