Complementing online study

Some subjects in your course may include a compulsory or optional intensive school. This is your opportunity to come on campus for between one and five days for face-to-face learning with academics and other students in your course. And it gives you the opportunity to engage in practical learning, go deeper into course material and ask plenty of questions. You'll get to interact with your academic staff and peers, go to lectures, practicals and tutorials, and make use of a range of campus facilities. To find out if any subjects in your course have intensive schools, check the course page.

You'll need to factor in intensive school costs to your overall course costs; they're not automatically included. You can take advantage of our reasonably priced on-campus intensive school accommodation. What's more, to help make your intensive school experience that bit easier, we also have a range of grants and other financial assistance to give you a helping hand. For example, you may be eligible to apply for our Equity Grant to help with the cost of on-campus accommodation and a Fares Allowance to help with the cost of travel. And don't forget, you may be able to use your student travel concession to make getting there easier.

You might be asking…

  • What if my course has an intensive school?

A intensive (residential) school is a short, intensive learning experience where usually you come on campus for a few days to connect with your online classmates, put your learning into practice and get one-to-one advice from your lecturers.

If safe to do so, intensive schools will go ahead. Some may be delayed until an appropriate time, while others may happen online.

We are monitoring the situation – with your safety our top priority. Rest assured, whatever the situation with intensive schools, we will ensure that you are able to complete your course.

  • Can I advance my career sooner with credit?

Quite possibly. If you’ve completed related study or have recognised industry experience, you could be eligible for credit towards your degree. Explore ways you can fast-track your course with recognition of prior learning, or get in touch with our friendly team to discuss your options.

  • Which level of study should I choose?

It all comes down to your career goals and experience.

Depending on your previous study and industry experience, you may be able to enrol directly into a master’s degree. Alternatively, you can start with a graduate certificate or graduate diploma.

If you meet the admission requirements, most of our postgraduate degrees allow you to enrol into the master’s and, if you prefer, you can exit early with a graduate certificate or diploma.
