Cyber warfare. Dark web. Digital forensics. Cyber terrorism. It’s virtual but it’s real – and it affects us all. Fraud, hacking, theft and increasingly sophisticated exploits by cybercriminals mean the cost and incidence of cyber-crime is rising globally.
We need you
Cyber security skills are in high demand, yet in short supply. A recent report from Cisco states that there are currently more than one million cyber security job openings globally. The demand is expected to rise to 3.5 million by 2021, with an estimated shortfall of 1.5 million.
The technology and tactics used by criminals are increasing in sophistication, outstripping the capabilities of existing IT and security standards.
A report from the Australian Cyber Security Growth Network projects that over the next decade the Australian cyber security industry could triple in size, with revenues rising to $6 billion by 2026, from just over $2 billion today.
Qualification = increased earning capacity
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistic’s 2016 Census, ICT security specialists with a university qualification earned an average of $262,061 more (over a 25 year period) than the average wage earned by specialists without a university qualification.
